It’s always such a pleasure when you get to photograph a family you know – kids your kids play with, parents you chat with at the bus stop, people who will hold you baby when your hands are full, neighbors. We are fortunate to live an amazing neighborhood with a wonderful sense of community and neighbors who will look out for you, support you, and offer help when you need it. We are lucky to have the Rajendra family across the street from us. Their son is my oldest daughter’s age and he’s the type of kid you just want your kid playing with, he’s sweet, inquisitive, and gets along with everyone, when Lucy asks, “can I ask Aditya to play?” I happily push her out the door. Their daughter Madu, is just about the most polite teenager you will ever meet. She waves and says “hi” anytime she’s outside and even asks, “how are you?” I mean what teenager asks their mom-of-3 neighbor “how are you?” One who is raised by awesome parents, that’s who. Obviously, she’s also strikingly beautiful. Raj and Roopa are the kindest people so it’s no wonder they’ve got pretty great kids. Raj walks Aditya to the bus stop every day and greets my girls with a “good morning,” I’m the lazy mom that watches my kids from the window. Fortunately, I have wonderful neighbors who make up for my slack.
Roopa approached me about a photo session a couple months ago wanting to do a combination of studio and outdoor photos. Of course, we wanted to wait until spring when the weather was a bit nicer, but alas we live in Indiana. It was pouring rain the day of our session, so we decided to go ahead with the studio shots and reschedule the outdoor pictures for another day. I was so excited to photograph them in traditional Indian Costumes, it’s something I have always wanted to do. Roopa consulted with me ahead of time about their wardrobe and I about gasped when I saw how beautiful her and Madu’s outfits were. I mean, I WISH I had a reason to wear something like that. Amazing.
