Miss Maggie made her way into this world a little earlier than planned and I wasn’t able to meet her until she was a month old. Matt and Kayla are family so I followed their pregnancy journey throughout, I knew Kayla was having trouble with preeclampsia, so I thought of them often and hoped for the best. Fortunately, even with Maggie being a month early she didn’t have a long NICU stay and Kayla’s blood pressure went back to normal almost immediately after delivery. They reached out to me once they were settled back home and I was so happy to travel to Champaign, IL to capture this special time for them.
Matt and Kayla are high school sweethearts from my husband’s hometown of Avon, IL. They attended undergrad together at Augustana, got married (it was a beautiful wedding), and settled into life in Champaign. I remember being a little shocked when I found out they were getting married, and again when I found out they were expecting, because they still were just teenagers in my mind. But, alas, they’re actually not that much younger than me, it’s funny how that age gap closes as you get older.
Our session went perfectly. Maggie slept a little, cuddled contently with her parents, and explored the world around her with her big beautiful eyes. I also had to include their first “baby” in the session, and Nora was the most perfect pup for all her photos. Matt, Kayla, and I chatted about family, work, technology, babies (of course), and Matt filled me in on all his favorite podcasts – I’ll have plenty to listen to for many car rides to come.
I’m still so honored Matt and Kayla chose me to capture their newborn photos when I know they have plenty of options right there in Champaign, and I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with them and baby Maggie. Congratulations you three, you all are so lucky to have each other.
