In early May I was so excited to go meet newborn baby girl Annika and her sweet family at their home for a lifestyle, or as I like to call them, homestead session. I had met Amy and PJ a couple of years ago for their first baby’s newborn session. They have a lovely home, and a stunning backyard. We decided for part of the session to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go outside.

Newly minted big brother, Ian, is two and a half and already a great brother to his little sister. He did not, however, love taking pictures. Clearly, the toddlers of the world have a pact involving photographers.  His lack of interest in me aside, we got some truly wonderful pictures filled with personality out of Ian. He loved playing trains with Daddy while Mommy took a break to feed Annika. I got some very genuine smiles out of him.

Homestead sessions are much more laid back, I love photographing my clients in their homes or places that mean something to them. They are so comfortable and there is not a lot of forced smiling or posing, just being with one another as you usually would. Annika was the sleepiest baby, but she had some really great expressions as well. She had a look of peace and safety in mommy’s arms. I love the picture of her on Amy’s chest in front of the window with the plantation shutters.

It is great when my clients decide to mix it up and do different kind of sessions. I love getting to know people in different settings!
