One of the best parts of my job is capturing families’ most joyous times, and little is more exciting than the arrival of a baby. Caycie and Matt welcomed their first baby Harper Chantelle on January 17th, 2015. I was one of the lucky few that got to meet her within her first 24 hours outside the womb. Maybe it’s because I’m a mother, maybe it’s because I’m an overly-tired hormonal sap, but I always get a little teared up when going to meet a newborn at the hospital. There is something so special about those first few days. Snuggling your baby for the first time, fretting over every sound they make, the love that seeps out of every pore of your body, the fear whether you’re doing “it” right, the hope that this baby has the best of everything, and the gratitude you feel that you get to be the parent of this child. There really is nothing that can prepare you for those first feelings. When I looked at Caycie when I walked into the hospital room, I swear I could envision cartoon hearts shooting out of her head. She was so obviously head-over-heels in love with her little girl. And Matt, forget about it. He’s already wrapped around Harper’s finger, he had that proud papa stance, like “yeah, I made that perfect being.” And, boy IS she perfect. Gorgeous pink skin, dainty little hands, precious wrinkled toes, she was straight out of Pampers commercial. I am so thankful I got to capture all those amazing little features for Caycie and Matt to look back on when she’s 5, and then 10, and then 20! I don’t have to tell you that it goes quickly. Congratulations Caycie and Matt on your darling baby girl, I can’t wait to see her for her studio newborn session next week!
