Once upon a time (about seven years ago), in a land far, far away (Frederick, Maryland), a high school boy (Taylor) and a high school girl (Emily), met and fell in love. These two high school sweethearts were married just a few weeks shy of their 20th birthdays. Shortly there after they decided to travel to Indiana to go to college and start their lives together. Four years later, they walked into my studio with their twin baby girls, Callie Grace and Riley Rose, the sweetest little princesses you’ve ever seen!
When they used to have spare time, Emily and Taylor like to hang out with their six year old “puppy” Peanut and watch their favorite shows together. They were very excited when they found out they were expecting twins at their very first appointment! Emily made it to full term, which they felt very fortunate to do. The couple said it was very important to them to keep God at the center of their marriage and family, and felt very blessed to have their girls on Easter Sunday!
I must admit, as is doing anything with babies, photographing two is harder than one, but these girls surpassed all expectations. Especially for my assistant, who had to be much more hands-on, holding Callie or Riley when I did individual poses. It was a very hard (read: the very best) day for her!
We started with a few shots of both girls wrapped up together just like they were in the womb with the cutest little headbands from my friend at Garden of Arden. Both girls started making the sweetest cooing noises I’ve ever heard. They sounded like harmonizing kittens. Mom and Dad said they hadn’t heard them do it before, so we were all just gushing over how adorable it was. The girls were perfect angels for their family shots and then it was time for props!
Sometimes twins are happier when they are right beside one another, but these two might like a little space! Getting them to pose touching one another was more difficult than posing them alone. Callie was 5 lbs 8 oz and Riley was 4 lbs 15 oz so they fit into my newborn props snuggled together perfectly. I had gotten some plum tulips and along with a garden basin and matching wraps and a bump blanket bucket from The Indy Cottage Prop Shop, the girls looked fresh from the garden.
Both girls were ready to eat at the same time, so my assistant and I fed them, giving Emily and Taylor a deserved break! Already pros, when we went back to shooting, mom and dad went to sleep.
After feeding, Riley wanted to stay wide awake and show me her pretty eyes, while Callie went right back to sleep, so we did some individual shots until we could get them both asleep together. We ended the shoot with the girls wrapped up together, toes to foreheads, snuggled up sweetly to each other.
I hope to see this sweet family again, they were a joy to work with! Here’s a sample from our newborn session!
