I had the pleasure of having newborn baby boy Asa Grey (Ace) in my studio for his newborn session. He brought along Mom (Sara) and Dad (Jonny), but left big sister Georgia at home so he could be in the spotlight. With her just being 2 1/2, Sara and Jonny decided it’d be less stressful to have her stay with Grandma.

I was so happy to see this family, as mom had a rough go of it in labor. 17 hours after having baby Ace, she was having another surgery. She is one strong woman, because you’d never know she had gone through all that trauma. The new family of four live in Bloomington so I was thrilled they made the trip to see me in downtown Indianapolis. Jonny travels for work, but when he’s not traveling he works from home. What a great situation to be able to have Dad at home to help out.

Ace was top of the class for his newborn session. He was asleep right until the end. When he woke up he gave me the goofiest faces. Mom and Dad left after the family pictures to go have lunch downstairs. I’m always ecstatic when parents take some time for themselves, which is a rare occurrence with a newborn, and trust me enough to leave their babies in my care – I’m always happy to babysit!

I recently got the cutest blue and white striped Rip Van Winkle cap. I decided to be a little nautical and put Ace in my vintage metal bucket. It reminds me of what they might have used on a ship 100 years ago. He snuggled right down and posed in my props perfectly.

Ace was so chill I used a new baby outfit on him. He must have liked the grey shirt and pants because he gave me the cutest smirk.
