Every time I get to photograph the Woodwards is so much fun, and last week was no exception! Tim, Tanya, and big brother Conner walked into my studio with sweet baby Christian. As always, we did sibling and family shots first, and Conner was excellent at taking direction from me when posing! Might be since I’ve been working with him since he was a newborn. Conner has really good big brother instincts and held baby Christian so gently and gave the camera some really adorable smiles.

Christian looked like he had sprung from the earth in a green wrap in my favorite wooden bowl with a mossy bump and a sweet knit hat. Tanya asked that we use the sweet little bunny wrap fromĀ Baby In Vogue as well, and Tim joked that this would definitely be blackmail later on, or put in the yearbook for high school graduation! We got in quite a few prop shots before Christian decided it was time to take a break to eat, which was a nice chance for us to all sit and catch up!

Tanya opted for a home birth with Christian, which had me so intrigued. Tim had said a big factor was how impersonal the hospital experience had been the first time around. Christian and big brother Conner both decided to start making their way into the world right around bedtime. Tim told us when all was said and done they were 40 hours with no sleep! At the hospital there are nurses in to check vitals and poke and prod you every couple hours, or to introduce themselves on shift change and they just wanted to get some rest! At home it was much easier to get some peace and quiet. Tanya had a dula with her and said she was invaluable. She loved the home birth and was able to prepare the house really rather simply. She bought a mattress pad, some towels, and no muss no fuss, had a baby! Good tip per Tanya- hydrogen peroxide will get anything out of anything!

When Christian was ready we got back to work, and since I had been to Tanya and Tim’s home to do their maternity session, I chose very simple and clean neutrals for the rest of baby Christian’s newborn session, to go with their style and decor. He definitely made us work for it after he had lunch, but at the end he fell asleep hard.

Even though the rest of the session was focused on Christian, Conner was the most well-behaved toddler. He showed my assistant some of his toys and Tanya told us that the Transformers were actually Tim’s from when he was a child.

I can’t wait to continue to work with the Woodwards during Christian’s first year, it is so fun to watch these littles grow! Here is a sneak peak from our session last week.
