This week I had a family return with baby number two for a newborn session in my studio! Emily, Luke, and big sister Miya brought in the newest member of their crew, Nora! Nora was full and ready to sleep on the job, so we got right to family pictures. Miya may be a big sister, but she is not even two yet, so we had to get her in front of the camera with Nora before she was over the intrigue of the studio.

Miya was a total doll in front of the camera. Emily said she never has a bad hair day, and I can see why with those gorgeous curls, how could she? I asked Miya if I could put a pretty princess dress on her and she twirled expertly around. I wrapped one of my sheer wraps around her and laid her down next to her baby sister and then while my assistant tickled her toes, got some quick sister photographs. Miya tolerated being next to her sister for about two minutes, which is exactly how much you can ask of a toddler!

Dad was wearing a black shirt so I got my black background down and did black and white of him holding his second baby. It turned out beautifully. Then I let mommy and daddy take Miya out to the lounge and soon sounds of Moana were floating back to us and Miya was an angel for her sister’s solo shots.

Despite the Indiana-typical warm weather we’ve been having in October, I had fall vibes during Nora’s session. She looked so adorable inĀ  my metal bucket prop. I have a new wispy gray bump from Whatsoever Things and Nora was the perfect autumn baby leaning over the side.

After the session was done, I asked Emily about their move down south (they had quite a drive to come see me this time!) and she told the sweetest story. She said growing up her grandparents lived down the street from her family. She was very close with them and was at their house all the time. One day after Miya was born, her mom called her up and said, “I’ve found your house.” Bit odd, because they weren’t really looking to buy a new house. Her mom said it was right down the street from Emily’s parents and she wanted her granddaughters to have the same kind of relationship with her as Emily had with her parents. I don’t know how you say no to that, and they didn’t and bought the house!

I’m so glad they made the drive to come and see me again, Emily and Luke have the most natural smiles I’ve ever seen in front of the camera, and their daughters are following suit. Here’s a look at our newborn session with Nora!
