One of my favorite things about my job is meeting people when they are first starting out their families- photographing their first maternity pictures, meeting newborn baby number one, capturing milestone moments, and then starting the whole experience over again each time the family grows. Last week I was lucky enough to continue on the journey with Sarah, Andy, and new big sister Katelyn, who brought 8-days new baby girl Soren into my studio for her newborn session!

Sarah and Andy both grew up in Indiana, Parker City and Elkhart respectively. They both had brothers but no sisters, so two baby girls has been a new experience for them! A friend of Sarah’s from college is married to one of Andy’s childhood next door neighbors and Sarah and Andy were introduced. Two weeks after having met, Andy accepted a job in Washington D.C. to which he relocated two and a half months later. Ten months later, Sarah quit her job and followed Andy to D.C. They were married on the second anniversary of their first date five years ago!

They don’t have much spare time left with two and half year old Katelyn and a newborn, but Sarah and Andy love to try new restaurants on date night and travel to new places. They enjoy the outdoors and spending time as a family. Church is also very important to them and they intend to raise their girls to make God a priority.

Soren is a rainbow baby, and so this pregnancy was understandably a little scary for Sarah and Andy, but baby girl arrived healthy and beautiful on the Fourth of July. She’s a yankee doodle sweetheart! She’s going to grow up thinking all those fireworks are her special celebration.

During the family portion of Soren’s newborn session, Andy reminisced about how Katelyn pooped all over him when he held her the way I posed him with Soren… who then promptly peed right in her Daddy’s hand. It’s always the Dads! Katelyn could not have been cuter when I posed her with her baby sis. It’s not always a given that a toddler will sit long enough to snap a photograph, but Katelyn tolerated me just as long as I needed her to.

Soren wasn’t always super keen on being touched and shifted, but baby girl looked so precious in every set up! I’ll definitely have some good stories to tell these two girls when they are older about their first photo shoots.
